Texas peace officer exam: common questions
Short answers about the licensing exam and this study workspace. Where the commission does not publish a fact, we say so.
Is this the real exam?
No. The questions in the real examination are not available to us or to anyone outside the commission. Every question here is original and is written from the same public law the examination is based on. See how the licensing exam works.
How many questions are in the real exam, and how long do I get?
The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement does not publish either figure, so we do not state one. What is published is that the pass mark is 70 percent, that you get three attempts, and that all three must be completed within 180 days of finishing your licensing course (37 Tex. Admin. Code secs. 219.1 and 219.7). The mock papers in the app use our own study settings, not the real paper.
What happens if I fail?
You have three attempts, all within 180 days of completing the licensing course. If you fail all three, or do not finish them in time, you must repeat the basic licensing course (37 Tex. Admin. Code sec. 219.1).
Will this get me through?
No study aid can promise that, and this one does not. It sets out the law topic by topic and asks you to apply it in scenario questions, with an explanation of why each wrong answer is wrong. A study plan can help you pace the work.
What does the product cover?
It covers 44 topics, from the powers of arrest and the law of search and seizure to offenses against the person, traffic law, victims' rights and report writing. Each topic has a plain-words guide, revision cards and scenario questions. Browse them in the study guides, or look up a term in the glossary.
Is there a free taster?
Yes. Four complete topics are free, with no card details: arrest without a warrant, search warrants and warrantless searches, use of force and deadly force and assaultive offenses. Open the free topics, or try the free practice questions.
How much does it cost?
Access to all 44 topics is $19 a month, billed monthly until you cancel. Sales tax is added at checkout where your state charges it. See the buy page for the full terms.
Can I cancel, and can I get a refund?
You can cancel at any time from the billing portal inside the app or by email, and access runs to the end of the paid month. If you ask within 14 days of your first payment, that payment is refunded in full. Read the refund policy.
Is the pass mark published?
Yes. The minimum passing percentage on each examination is 70 unless a rule provides otherwise (37 Tex. Admin. Code sec. 219.7). A score stays valid for two years from entry into the commission's records.
Is this affiliated with the commission or an academy?
It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, any law enforcement agency, or any training academy or provider. It is an independent study aid and does not reproduce the examination. Law changes, so check the current text of any provision, and the current course with your academy, before you rely on anything here.
